Abstract

In this paper we question the appropriateness of using the Arrow-Sen framework of social choice to study issues concerning liberalism and observe that Sen’s definition of liberalism appears to conflict with the concept of liberty. We then proceed to show that individual decision making or individual choice theory with state-dependent preferences or for that individual matter multi-criteria decision theory is well suited for further analysis in the Arrow-Sen framework.
