Abstract

The Jain value system has been the key factor to enrich and elevate all forms of life, regardless of their size or form. At its heart lies the principle of Ahiṃsā, advocating for a sense of harmony and respect for the delicate balance of existence. As a part of that, through meditation, self-awareness, and ethical conduct, Jain ascetics strive to embody the principles of the five “great vows” (Mahāvratas) and the doctrine of Tri-Ratna not only in their actions but also in their thoughts and intentions, encouraging individuals to cultivate empathy & mindfulness in their interactions with all living creatures, by fostering a harmonious existence for both humans and the natural world. Thus, they acknowledge all creation as being an equal part of the divinity of the universe. This article reflects the same. Here the author specifically tried to focus more on Jain beliefs & principles and how they encapsulate a holistic worldview that promotes generosity, environmental consciousness, and a profound sense of dignity, which ultimately upholds the intrinsic worth of every life form, whether visible or microscopic.
